Founders and Executive Managers

Clyde B. Jones BCH JP
Founder and Executive Manager
1923-2008

Clyde or "Daddy Jones" as he is affectionately
referred to by family and staff alike was born in the small fishing village of Oistins, Christ Church. Like his loving wife of 62 years, Clyde was a product of a family heavily involved in public service. His mother, Genetha Jones of
Oistins and his siblings, the locally well-known
Aberdeen Jones (Gall Hill, Christ Church), Goldene "Pet" Jones (Oistins) and Ismay Waithe
(Sargeants Village, Christ Church) were all shop
merchants while Vera Watkins was a former
headmistress of St. Bartholomew’s Girls School.
In keeping with the enterprising spirit of his now deceased family members, Clyde started out
as a mechanic and later became a taxi proprietor before venturing into the funeral industry, 60 years ago at a time when it was difficult for many to see their goals to fruition.

A man of a quiet and humble nature with an unwavering faith, always strived for nothing else than the best when attending to "his families" and for his unfailing dedication, love and ambition along with hard work paved a way to his success. Not a man of many words but one who will always be remembered by his gracious smile and dignified demeanour, he was always been precise in his direction of the business and was way ahead of the drive for service excellence as can be noted by the adopted team motto, 'Where Honour Dwells and Service Excels'.
Lifetime achievements
On October 13, 1948, Clyde B. Jones Funeral
Home Co. Ltd. officially opened its doors.
1950s to 1960s – He ventured into politics,
a career which though brief, saw him serve
as Chairman of the Southern District Council
(Local Government).
Mid 1960's – His love for music led him
to manage, from its inception, the spouge band
Troubadours (now known as the famous
Troubadours International). As an aside, he was a keen piano player and at one time played the
organ at Christ Church Parish Church.
1998 – Clyde B. Jones Funeral Home Co. Ltd. along with founders, staff, family, friends and
well-wishers celebrated their golden
anniversary, 50 years in the funeral industry.
2000 – He received the prestigious Barbados
Centennial Honour, a national recognition for his
unwavering contribution to the funeral industry
and his service mainly to the Christ Church
Community.
2008 – Featured in the book by Dr. Henderson
Carter, Business in Bim: A Business History
of Barbados 1900–2000
which analyses "the
development and growth of Black  businesses".
2008 – Later this year, with God's riches
blessings we will be celebrating 60 years
of excellent and professional service to the
bereaved. However, what we did not know that this year would forever be marked in our memories. On Monday, August 18, 2008, our founder entered peacefully into eternal rest and a Thanksgiving Service was held to celebrate his life on Friday, August 29, 2008 at his place of worship, Christ Church Parish Church. "Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime, and departing, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time"
Stanza from Lonfellow's Psalm of Life.

"Daddy Jones" well done! We love you and will truly miss you. Until we meet again.

Alma D. Jones
Founder and Executive Manager

Alma, affectionately called "Mummy Jones"
was born in Spa Hill, St. Joseph and is related
to the Barrow clan of St. Lucy and St. Joseph.
She married her childhood sweetheart; a union
which lasted for over 62 years. As the popular
adage goes, "behind every successful man,
there stands a good woman" and in every
way, Alma is the embodiment of this saying.
Not only was she supportive of her husband
when he first ventured into the funeral industry
but also rolled up the proverbial shirt sleeves
and worked alongside Clyde aiding in the daily
running of the business and overall, making
sure all of "their families" received
professional service.

As aforementioned, the couple shared
a similar background for like Clyde, Alma hails
from a service oriented family. Her sisters,
Ianthe "Lou" Gill and the late Molly Barrow
were involved in the shop business for many
years. Not to be left out, she too opened and
operated a thriving beauty parlour from their
home in Top Rock in the 1960s.
Alma, mothered four children, two of which,
Kenneth and Kathy, still remain with the
company. This in itself is a laudable
achievement to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde B. Jones
"as black-owned enterprise[s] have been
largely unsuccessful in obtaining the service
of the second generation to ensure continuity
and growth" (Carter, Henderson. Business in Bim: A Business History of Barbados
1900-2000
. Kingston: Ian Randle Publishers,
2008, 76–77).

Today, "Mummy Jones" remains a dominant
and treasured figure at Clyde B. Jones Funeral
Home Co. Ltd. as her wealth of knowledge,
hands-on experience, support and advice is
respected and always welcomed.
